NCDOT awards Balfour Beatty with $167 million road construction contract

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) awarded a $167 million road construction project to Balfour Beatty to build the US 70 Havelock Bypass, according to The Construction Index.

The bypass, a four-lane dual roadway, is designed to alleviate congestion and improve freight movement in Carteret and Craven counties.

“This project is a strategic fit because of our southeast region team’s ability to self-perform both the structures and roadway scope,” said John Rempe, president and chief executive officer of Balfour Beatty’s US civil construction operations, according to the news agency. “Our relationship with NCDOT extends over 20 years, and we look forward to delivering another successful project for this client.”

Construction is slated to begin in late August with project completion set for the spring of 2024.
