ACPA Participates in FHWA Executive Session

Jerry Voigt recently participated in an FHWA Executive Session to hear updates on the agency’s Every Day Counts (EDC) program, as well as perspectives from FHWA officials.

The session opened with welcoming remarks by Mala K. Parker, FHWA Deputy Administrator. DOT Secretary Elaine Chao and FHWA Administrator Nicole Nason also presented shared greetings and messages about the value and purpose of the program.

Officials shared that more than 100 entries were submitted for consideration in Round 6, the current (2020-22) EDC program.

FHWA reported, seven initiatives, including concrete overlays, were selected. Based on the number and quality of candidate technologies it was challenging to narrow from the field of entries. A panel of industry and agency representatives discussed the seven technologies. The panel included Jim Tymon, Executive Director of AASHTO, Rich Juliano, ARTBA’s General Counsel and Managing Director of the association’s Contractors and P3 Divisions; and Donna Shea, who serves as President of the National Local Technical Assistance Program Association. (She also serves as the Director of the Connecticut Training and Technical Assistance Center at the Connecticut Transportation Institute.)

The Every Day Counts initiative on concrete and asphalt overlays will be ramping up in the coming weeks/months. This executive session was one of several kick-off events.
